Here at Calder Web Marketing we have been running some tests of late regarding website size, in relation to pages, words, file sizes and characters.
Obviously images of a high file size reduce your page load speed. However the overall size of your website in terms of pages, words, and characters does matter.
If you are going to create a blog, then create it on the same domain as the main website if you want to check another search engine friendly box. Some companies debate over this and wind up having a blog on another domain thinking that the links from website to blog will benefit them. Well, this is true, but the bigger website, ie the website and the blog on the same domain will win hands-down. As for links, so long as you create “absolute url links” the backlinks benefits are still there.
So in summary – thinking of a new blog to complement your website – same domain name option is the best option for SEO
